Room for Thought – Chapter 5: I Don’t Know What Crystals Mean, but I Know What Looks Beautiful

Room for Thought – Chapter 5: I Don’t Know What Crystals Mean, but I Know What Looks Beautiful

As someone who runs a crystal décor shop, people often assume that I must know the meaning behind every crystal.

Which one attracts love.

Which one brings wealth.

Which one represents good luck.

Which one offers protection.

The truth is, I don’t.

The only one I’ve heard often enough to remember is that rose quartz is associated with love.

That is roughly the full extent of my spiritual crystal knowledge.

Unlike many crystal shops, I don’t give every stone a special promise or meaning.

It isn’t because I dislike those ideas.

If a crystal carries a personal or spiritual meaning for someone, I think that’s lovely.

I simply don’t pretend to be an expert in something I don’t understand.

What I do understand is beauty.

I know when a shape looks right.

I know when two colours work beautifully together.

I know how a crystal prism catches the sunlight.

I know when a piece looks balanced hanging in a window.

And I know when something makes me stop and look at it for a little longer.

From the beginning, I never wanted to build a crystal shop around spirituality or promises of good fortune.

In The Gift Room, the most important thing is simple:

It has to look beautiful.

Beautiful when it’s hanging.

Beautiful in photographs.

Beautiful enough to make you happy when you see it every day.

Beautiful enough for a friend to walk into your home and say:

“Where did you get that?”

And beautiful enough to photograph, post on Instagram, and receive the only review I really need:

“That’s so pretty.”

I don’t sell promises.

I sell beautiful things.

Rose quartz is traditionally associated with love and tenderness. We chose it for its soft blush colour and the way it catches the light.

Amethyst is often associated with calm and clarity. For us, it was the depth of its purple colour that made this piece special.

That has always been the idea behind The Gift Room.

A simple, beautiful world of crystal for people who love light, nature and making their homes feel special.
