Room for Thought – Chapter 1: The Day My Friend Tried to Introduce Me to Suncatchers
Share
One day, I was shopping with one of my best friends.
We’ve known each other for more than ten years.
As we walked past a local crystal shop—one that has been around for years—I said:
“Let’s go in and have a look.”
It was one of those shops filled with crystals, spiritual products, astrology readings and all sorts of mysterious things.
Then I spotted a crystal prism.
It was $25.
Just one crystal ball.
“Wow,” I said. “That’s not cheap.”
My friend immediately became very excited.
“Let me tell you what this is. It’s called a suncatcher!”
Apparently, you hang it near a sunny window, and when the light hits the crystal, little rainbows appear all around the room.
“They’re so popular right now,” she continued. “Instagram keeps showing them to me every night. I’ve wanted one for ages. They’re so beautiful!”
I looked at her.
“Let me show you a website.”
I opened my phone and pulled up The Gift Room.
“I have an entire website full of them.”
She stared at the screen.
“Wow. Your photos are so dreamy!”
“I know,” I said.
The truth is, I never wanted to connect crystals with spirituality.
I don’t sell meanings, energies or promises.
I simply think they’re beautiful.
That’s it.
I’ve always assumed I was the only person who loved pretty little things that served absolutely no practical purpose.
Apparently, I was wrong.
It turns out that two women rapidly approaching forty—and my four-year-old daughter—all like exactly the same things.
Sparkly.
Dreamy.
And slightly unnecessary.
